03
Orthopaedics
Movement problems or lameness can have a major impact on your horse's performance and wellbeing. We offer:
- Lameness examination and gait analysis
- Ultrasound & digital radiography (X-ray) for accurate diagnostics.
- Joint treatments (incl. SI and back) with anti-inflammatories or regenerative therapies.
- Mesotherapy for chronic back and muscle problems.
- Clinical and radiographic pre-purchase examinations.

04
Acupuncture
Vet Karen Dehenau is an IVAS-certified equine acupuncturist. Acupuncture does not replace conventional medicine, it complements it: we use it alongside regular diagnostics and treatment. It is particularly useful for:
- Musculoskeletal problems: stiffness, back and neck pain, reduced suppleness.
- Internal disorders such as digestive and respiratory problems.
- Behavioural and stress-related complaints.
- Vague complaints where examination reveals no clear cause.
- Pain management and recovery after illness, injury or surgery.

05
Dermatology
Skin problems can range from allergies to infections. You can come to us for:
- Skin scrapings and biopsies to diagnose skin infections and fungi.
- Allergy testing in horses with chronic itching or skin inflammation.
- Treatment of fungal infections, sweet itch, skin allergies, and more.

06
Internal medicine
Internal disorders can be complex and require a thorough approach. We offer:
- Diagnostics for colic & stomach problems, with the option of ultrasound and gastroscopy.
- Respiratory problems: endoscopy of the upper airways, sampling for e.g. asthma or rhodococcus in foals.
- Ultrasound of the lungs & abdominal organs.
- Faecal testing & gut health in cases of diarrhoea or chronic digestive problems.
- Treatment of systemic disorders such as liver and kidney problems.
- Exercise intolerance or reduced performance under work

07
Eye conditions
Eye problems in horses are often underestimated, yet they require prompt diagnosis and treatment:
- Diagnosis & treatment of uveitis, corneal ulcers, and more.
- Fluorescein staining & slit-lamp examination
- Medication & long-term management of chronic eye problems

08
Dentistry
Healthy teeth are hugely important for your horse's overall health and performance. At DAP Dendervallei we offer comprehensive dental care, with modern equipment and a professional approach, directly at your yard.
- Dental check-ups & preventive care.
- Power rasping. Our equipment runs on batteries, so access to electricity is not required.
- Diastema treatment.
- Basic tooth extractions: removing caps (retained milk teeth), wolf teeth, loose cheek teeth with high mobility, and incisors.
- Dental scope: an oral camera. This also allows you, as the owner, to watch live inside your horse's mouth, giving a clear diagnosis and a better understanding.

09
Endoscopy
Examination of the upper and lower airways.
- Examination of the upper airways, e.g. to detect conditions such as roaring (laryngeal paralysis), guttural pouch inflammation and structures that affect breathing.
- Diagnosis of chronic coughing and asthma — with the help of airway sampling
- Detection of infections such as rhodococcus in foals through targeted sampling.
- An endoscopy is carried out entirely at your yard, so your horse can be examined in familiar surroundings.
10
Gastroscopy
- Diagnosis of gastric ulcers (EGUS).
- Examination of the oesophagus in cases of swallowing difficulties or blockages.
- Assessment of the stomach contents and the gastric mucosa.
- A gastroscopy is carried out entirely at your yard, so your horse can be examined in familiar surroundings.
Important: preparing for a gastroscopy.
To reach a correct diagnosis, the stomach must be completely empty before the examination. Only then is the stomach wall clearly visible and can we make a reliable diagnosis. That is why it is important that your horse:
- Is fasted for at least 12 hours before the examination takes place: no feed, hay or grass.
- Does not drink for at least 4 hours before the examination.
